Side Event PAREMA at the World Hydrogen Summit 2025
Hydrogen transport infrastructure : The Morocco – Netherlands – Germany Corridor
On May 22, 2025, a trilateral side event was held in Rotterdam on the sidelines of the World Hydrogen Summit 2025, under the theme “Hydrogen Transport Infrastructure: The Morocco – Netherlands – Germany Corridor.”
This side event brought together institutional, industrial, and technical stakeholders from Morocco, the Netherlands, and Germany, with the objective of exploring the development prospects for hydrogen transport infrastructure along the cross-border green hydrogen supply chain — from production and transport to industrial consumption in Western Germany. Discussions highlighted the importance of existing and future infrastructures, the need for an appropriate regulatory framework, as well as the challenges of investment and coordination between the countries.
The opening remarks were delivered by Mr. Rogier van Tooren, Head of International Finance and Emerging Markets at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mr. Peter Bos (Royal HaskoningDHV) presented the findings of a pre-feasibility study conducted on behalf of the World Bank, analyzing Morocco’s development opportunities as a green hydrogen hub and the role that Moroccan ports will play in this energy transition.
A panel discussion featuring Mr. Hicham El Abid (MASEN), Mr. Mohammed Jaja (ANP), Mr. Markus Exenberger (H2Global), Ms. Monica Swanson (Port of Rotterdam), and Mr. Johannes Eng (Port of Duisburg) explored the planning perspectives for hydrogen transport infrastructure from Morocco to Europe, and the key steps required to support their development and integration into European markets.
The closing remarks were delivered by H.E. Ms. Sophie Hermans, Dutch Minister for Climate Policy and Green Growth, and Dr. Jürgen Friedrich, Special Envoy for Hydrogen Projects at the BMWE. Both reaffirmed the political commitment to advancing this trilateral cooperation.
