Morocco Advances New Natural Gas Sector Regulations
The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MTEDD) has submitted Bill 67-24 to the General Secretariat of the Government, marking a significant step forward in Morocco's natural gas sector regulation. The legislation provides for the creation of a public natural gas network operator and establishes a comprehensive framework for market organization, including rules for aggregators, suppliers, and distributors.
The bill requires the network operator to develop a ten-year infrastructure plan while introducing specific pricing mechanisms and consumer protection measures. These include ensuring end-users' rights to choose operators freely and implementing deterrent sanctions for contractual violations. This regulatory framework aligns with Morocco's strategy to diversify its energy sources while promoting sustainable development.
