New decrees on energy self-production and guarantees of origin
New decrees on self-production and guarantees of origin
In a press release from beginning of September, the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development (MTEDD) provided information on decrees that will soon be published. These are intended to help achieve the Moroccan energy transition and energy efficiency targets.
- Decree no. 804.24.2 is intended to regulate the self-production of electricity with the help of bidirectional smart meters. The aim is to simplify the integration of renewable energies and thus accelerate the development of a smart grid by enabling remote monitoring.
- Decree no. 761.24.2 intends to regulate the procedures for issuing guarantees of origin and create new opportunities for the marketing of green electricity products. MTEDD is designated as the competent authority for issuing the certificates.
- Decree No. 153.24.2 specifies the role of energy service companies and enables them to carry out their own studies on energy consumption and efficiency and to improve employability in these areas.
- Furthermore, decrees on storage, curtailment and feed-in of at low and medium voltage levels are currently being discussed and have been submitted to the General Secretariat of the Moroccan government for approval.
The publication of the decrees will represent a significant change for the expansion of renewable energies supported by the private sector. The German development cooperation has supported this intensively. It is expected that the feed-in of electricity from renewable energies will increase significantly over the next few years.
