Xlinks project: first trials successful
Xlinks project: first successful tests with cable-laying vessel
UK-based submarine cable manufacturer XLCC has successfully completed the first modeling tests on its cable laying vessel (CLV) for the Xlinks Morocco-UK project. Xlinks is a 3,800 km-long high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission cable project to link Morocco and Great Britain. The investment is expected to create around 2,000 permanent jobs and some 10,000 temporary jobs in Morocco. The first cable should be operational before 2027 and the other three before 2029. In view of rising electricity prices and the ambitious targets set for Europe's future electricity system, Xlinks sets an example for North Africa as a relevant region for exporting renewable electricity to Europe via an interconnector. The project is worth US$21.9 million.
